Although the main reviews seem to highlight the gore, there are a few graphic gory scenes (2-3) but nothing prolonged. There there is real empathy in this movie and I wouldn't lump it specifically with horror or as a cannibal movie although there will be people who are put off and think that is all that it is.
It is as much a coming of age movie and a tragic comedy as it is those other things. Powerful on many levels. Highly recommend, I saw it twice.
