Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Carol H — 22 May 2018
It took a while for me to see this film, but it was well worth the wait. Not only is 'Ready Player One' visually stunning, but it also tells an absorbing and epic 21st century tale. I really liked the bond between the High Five, particularly Wade and Samantha's evolving relationship.
The movie's message about the overexposure of media and importance of privacy was also timely without being obnoxious. Admittedly, it does have a few weaknesses. I didn't understand some of the references; I probably would've liked the film more if I did.
Also, I really didn't care for T.J. Miller's character. (All I could see was his 'Emoji Movie' character in a different body.) Those faults aside, 'Ready Player One' successfully updates the YA movie formula and makes one nostalgic for the adventure/fantasy movies of yesteryear.
