Riddled with clichés and plot holes, RED is an insult to its source material, and an underwhelming film. While it may have competent cinematography, a semi-decent score, and a mostly good cast, RED's flaws outweigh its positives in a catastrophic way.

In one word, RED is corny. The majority of jokes only result in dead-end silence, with just a few hitting the mark properly. There is no originality to be found, other than the under-utilised gimmick.

Mary-Louise Parker gives a thoroughly unconvincing performance, but none are more disappointing than John Malkovich's, though it might not be his fault as every line of dialogue written for him is so incredibly unfunny.

RED is also incredibly dated, even in its use of sound effects and colour correction. The action is uninspired, badly filmed, and at the limits of what is required for choreography. A few explosions and a spinning car cannot hide what a disappointment RED is; I do not look forward to watching the sequel.
