Review of Red Riding Hood (2011) by Dylan I — 01 Sep 2014
I'll give it credit where it's due, but this movie really didn't do it for me. It's take on the classic story, and lore was interesting enough, but falls short on so many levels. It's nice to see a Canadian filmed movie once in a while, and there are some great actors better known for there sci-fi television roles in this movie which I enjoyed; however brief.
The look and feel really is one of reading a classic fairy tale. The over exposed shots giving a warm glow, dingy character and set designs all work in the films favor; however the moment I was lost and could never respect this movie again was the male leads.
Having the tag line "from the director of Twilight" is already a knock against your movie in most peoples books, but I went in with an open mind. The first and last moment I looked at these leads and went yes I buy you as a believable character was oddly enough their hair-do.
Holy hell do these men have enough product in their hair, for a movie where most people look a bit run down these two guys have perfect hair. It's really hard to take any movie seriously when you can tell in the first two minutes that the only reason this actor is here is to get all the teenage girls watching wet their panties.
Unless you're a teen girl who loves to pawn over pretty guys, and need more night time fingering material I say pass.
