Review of Reversal of Fortune (1990) by Alec B — 26 Oct 2011
A completely compelling true mystery filmed with intelligence. Jeremy Irons is remarkable as Claus Von Bulow. The rest of the cast give wonderful performances as well. Schroeder cleverly tells this strange mystery revolving around Claus Von Bulow and his wife Sunny Von Bulow who ends up in a coma from an insulin overdose for which Claus was found guilty of attempted murder but Claus gets a retrial and is found innocent.
Was Claus trying to kill his wife, was she trying to kill herself or was the coma a result of an accidental insulin overdose on her part? Director Barbet Schroeder doesn't take sides, instead the film stays ambiguous leaving us to ponder the truth on our own.
