Ang Lee has a knack for following a traditional storyline while avoiding every possible traditional detail. The stylized civil war violence is cool to watch yet it doesn't distant us from achieving historical insight.
And, I'm no Civil War expert, but the confederate raid into Lawrence, Kansas feels like it should be one of the most realistic Civil War event pieces in modern film history.
