Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) by Kevin R — 13 Dec 2018
Great movie. It was a bit boring. The character development may have been terrible, the main characters (the Rogue One team) were forgettable and cardboard, but what saved this movie was the story and the action scenes. The story and the action were great. This is a great Star Wars spin-off. The best scene was the last action scene. It ties in to A New Hope so well. This standalone Star Wars prequel is a much, much, much better prequel than Episodes 1, 2, and 3. The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith are all horribly written, badly directed, horribly acted, badly executed, badly tied, and badly made films. George Lucas' entire Star Wars Prequel Trilogy is ridiculous and unwatchable garbage. Gareth Edwards' film, Rogue One, is a great, well-made, well-directed, well-acted, and solid film. Heck, Rogue One is even better than that overrated Star Wars original, Return of the Jedi. Don't get me wrong, Return of the Jedi is a great film but it's also very flawed. Episode 6 was a slight disappointment in the Star Wars Original Trilogy. Episode 6 still could have been so much better. Return of the Jedi is highly overrated by the audience. People who think Return of the Jedi is better than Rogue One are just annoying old farts blinded by their love of nostalgia for the Star Wars originals.
Rating: 8.4/10.
