Review of Romance & Cigarettes (2005) by Chris W — 19 Jan 2010
There are times when it doesn't make a lick of sense, but all is forgiven considering how fascinated I was with John Turturro's surrealistic pseudo-musical and all its quirks and bizarre scenes.
Sometimes the acting is great (Winslet playing a trashy cockney prostitute), others just terrible (Mary-Louise Parker makes me scratch my head in every scene), but the point is whatever Turturro is trying to do, whether to just riff off the Coens or make an homage to the French New Wave, it certainly worked for me.
