Review of Ronin (1998) by Michael B — 17 Jan 2010
It's definitely not a plot-driven drama. We don't even know what's in the case. It doesn't matter. The suitcase is only a Macguffin, a plot device intended to bring a cast together for the purpose of making an action movie which easily tops the latest few Bond movies.
Robert DeNiro turns in his best performance since Wag the Dog (1993). There was also that guy who plays all those creepy bad guys. Turns out his name is Jean Reno, turning in another solid performance.
The action sequences are the best gunfights since The Matrix. The car chase is the best I've ever seen. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a little guilty pleasure. This is so pleasurable that it doesn't even have to be guilty.
