Review of Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage (2010) by Robert B — 12 Jan 2016
I don't have much to say about this one; I really enjoyed it as a fan of RUSH since I was in middle school. 2112 was one of the first non-Weird Al albums I had, and it was gifted to me by my Dad. Imparting this look into prog rock was one of the coolest things and one of my best memories of my Dad and I hanging out when I was younger.
The doc is pretty well patterned; the story just tells the stories of the band growing up and their career - pretty straightforward stuff.
The big takeaway is just how generally easygoing and funny the band actually is and their sense of humor and Canadian quaint upbringing is reflected in their just wanting to be the best band they can be and make the best and craziest music they can.
It's on Netflix! Go watch it, if not for the groovy tunes alone!
