Review of Saw II (2005) by David L — 14 Mar 2015
What a film - I mean if Thorpe Park is going to spawn a ride and live action horror maze after this series then you know it's got to be a film that will last in the memory, and it certainly does that with me! Set after the events of the original took place, the Jigsaw killer is still on the loose, and again presents himself in the situation to be caught, but of course it's not all that easy.
As he is the only person who knows the whereabouts of the arresting officers son (along with several other individuals who have been kidnapped with him), it's key that they stay on terms long enough to establish the whereabouts of these 'gameplayers'.
Involving several twists throughout the 90 minutes, the key focus is on where these survivors are, as each battle their own game, and one another, in an attempt to live long enough to escape the confides of the house, which is leaking a deadly nerve gas.
I simply love the full on action and surprises that are thrown at us on a countless number of occasions and the gore factor has been seriously upped, commencing with one of the most cringe worthy traps to date - anything involving the eyes are always going to be horrid! It does seem strange that the lead actor was a member of New Kids on the Block, but I try to look beyond that and the fact he didn't break out into song is of course a bonus that keeps the credibility of the film very well in tact.
I could watch this over and over again and it ties in very nicely with the first instalment. A warning to all film goers though - this is not one to be watched out of order, otherwise the ending may be a little bemusing to those unfamiliar with the original.
