Review of Saw V (2008) by Tyler S — 22 Jun 2013

In my eyes this is one of the franchises that has just continued to wow us with each of its films. The first movie laid a solid foundation, with the sequels building upon its success time and time again.

With each chapter, you wonder where it can possibly go next given that the majority of the cast have met a bloody end somewhere along the line, but the introduction of new characters and the way they become interlinked with previous instalments is impressive.

By doing this, the producers have many loose ends to tie up but they seem to execute it perfectly and in a way which doesn't make it complicated for the viewer. On this occasion, we discover that Jigsaw had a 2nd accomplice from the very beginning and whilst we uncover the truth about that, there's also a story unfolding about five 'strangers' who have been hand picked for Jigsaw's new game, plus the chase for the killer as we watch the FBI attempt to hunt down the accomplice who is continuing the Jigsaw legacy, and rescue the fatal five from their torturous surroundings.

There are numerous traps as we come to expect, of which they offer a variety of gruesome deaths, differing to what we have seen before! I especially love the pendulum and circular saw scenes which we're treated to at the very beginning and end of the viewing.

You can't help but continue to cringe at the style and realism of these executions, and as a result its one of the rare DVD's where I'm actually prepared to watch the 'extra's' action in order to understand the inspiration and effects that go into it.

For the faint hearted among us, this series cannot come to an end soon enough, but in the words of our killer, I hope the games have only just begun!
