Review of Scary Movie 2 (2001) by Paul D — 05 Jan 2011

Pretty bad, especially compared to the first film. I'm gonna ignore the fact that the storyline almost completely disregards the first film here, first of all. My main problem here is that the references to films are completely all over the place.

..in the first film, it was to movies that had been released four to five years at most before Scary Movie was produced, so it was focused to some extent. This film makes references to practically everything, so it's kinda hard to keep up.

I personally didn't get a lot of the jokes the film was trying to make, but this was probably because they weren't funny to begin with. The same can be said for many of the pop culture references, which honestly just aren't funny.

If you don't get the movie references a film in the Scary Movie franchise is trying to make, then what the hell is the point? The films that Scary Movie 2 spoofs aren't really even films that deserve spoofing, like the new Charlie's Angels films, which are almost as shitty as the actual tv series.

Avoid this like the plague...or worse, like it's a Nicolas Cage film.
