Review of Scream 3 (2000) by Jacob B — 05 Mar 2018
Let's get the main problems with Scream 3 out of the way. It's more of a parody than an actual horror movie. Mainly with Parker Posey following Courtney Cox around. Scream had comedic elements but they were balanced out well with the horror movie elements.
Even the second movie succeeded in this task. Here, it finds itself victim to full-on comedy. It doesn't help that this movie came out in the same year as Scary Movie as well as a more obsure not-well-liked parody with a ridiculously long title.
The Jay and Silent Bob cameo is the only reason I even watched this movie. A stupid reason, I know, but, especially in the pre-YouTube era people only went to see certain movies because of the trailer preceding them.
Here's another problem. Ghostface has a voice-changing device this time around. Not so bad until you realize that this device allows impossibly accurate voice impressions that almost results in fridge-nuking.
Scream 3 is still not as bad as people let on. The tension is still there, you want most of the characters to make it out okay even though at this point we already know that three certain actors won't be getting the axe from the franchise anytime soon.
Sidney finally earns her happy ending. She deserves it after all the hell she went through *cue fourth film*, ...this was still meant to be the last movie so it still counts. Sidney's current position is realistic following the bittersweet ending of the last movie.
NO SPOILERS!!! And it still had me guessing who the killer was. A perfectly okay yet goofy conclusion to a trilogy that had a sequel come out of nowhere eleven years later because apparently Kevin Smith can predict the future and all he had to do was cast Wes Craven in a cameo so that they'll be even since he and Jason Mewes already made one in this movie.
It's less confusing if you think that the Scream franchise isn't canon with the View Askewniverse and vice versa.
