Review of Searching (2018) by Chris B — 26 Sep 2018
The trailer says it all: grainy footage, almost everything on a computer, an overall flat tone. One of many examples: near the climax, there is what would be an emotional scene in a real movie; the father is with a search party, being held back as they look in a deep canyon.
What does the viewer see? an overhead shot from a helicopter, with comment from a television anchor-no dialogue from dad, just a distant shot as he is held back. If you want to see a great movie involving a search for someone who is missing, see "A Simple Favor.
" It is clever, funny, tense, with many twists. Now that is a movie that deserves a 93, not this amateurish work to attract those who live in the artificial, soulless world of their smartphones and computers.
