Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Tans D — 30 Dec 2007
So I have decided to make my movie reviews less wordy. I agree with other reviewers that this film contains many themes found in other Hitchcock films, only here they are more subtle and layered. There are a couple of shots (like the tight close-up on Joseph Cotten's face during his tirade against women) that make the film worth seeing, whatever your personal view of Hitchcock.
Cotten's performance--I had only seen him in Kane--is chilling, supplemented by Hitchcock's paced and masterful direction. I highly recommend it.
