Review of Shallow Grave (1994) by Adrian Z — 02 May 2014
The basic premise of making a thriller tense is that you need to care about what happens with the main characters. As a thriller, Shallow Grave offers up a good, twisted plot, that ends satisfyingly well, but it's three central characters are so despicable and cruel, it's hard to side with them in their efforts to get away with keeping a stash of money left by a deceased new flatmate.
In any case, Danny Boyle's debut is a striking one, even if the production values and performances are a little rough.
