Review of Shin Godzilla (2016) by Joseph J — 29 Dec 2017
This GODZILLA movie has quick pacing despite its content and good discussions and is a clear criticism of bureaucracy, presumably in reference to the 2011 tsunami and consequent nuclear power plant leak. Since the original 1954 Godzilla is clearly a reference to the US nuclear attack and consequent fallout, this feature functions much the same way as the original historical analogy. The film succeeds.
And I have to give credit to the Japanese actors portraying American accents. The accents are clear. And for that matter all the acting was well done and felt modern. Not that I know what modern Japan is like.
It also has the most adaptive Godzilla. Plus I don't know what's that scary thing happening with his tail at the end. What it does imply is whomever can adapt the quickest, whether the monster or the humans with their technology, possibly in the next film, is going to be the successful party.
