Starring Justin H. Min, Shirley Coke and Ellie Markey. The Cons starts off as a movie within a movie. We meet Mrs. Hsu (Stephanie Hsu), a woman in a fancy yellow gown, just as her application for a penthouse apartment has been rejected. Seconds later, her suit-clad husband (Ronny Chieng) buys the entire building, prompting the two to kiss passionately in the elevator leading to their new luxury home. Fireworks go off, fairy music plays, and a title card declares "This is just the beginning...".

Cut to the rapturous crowd at the East Bay Asian American Film Festival. Everyone jumped to their feet and gave him a standing ovation, except for one dismissive person.
