Review of Singularity (2017) by Philip H — 09 Aug 2018
Although the premise of this film (streaming on Netflix) is interesting - an Artificial Intelligence decides humanity is the problem - its screenplay and execution (both of which can be blamed on writer-director Robert Kouba) are fatally flawed.
This film is not a good use of your time, except insofar as you want to see what John Cusack looks like now. As assembled, the film suffers from several continuity problems - is a cemetery scene before or after? Further incongruities are illustrated with plot spoilers: The female protagonist uses a GPS device to find a fabled city, without apparently giving away her position to the automation with which such a device would necessarily interact.
The protagonists spend most of the film aimlessly wandering around in the forest, presumably of North America, as they speak American English - but then stumble upon the ruins of a medieval castle city, an unlikely find on our continent.
A kiss from the female protagonist turns an android to the human side.
