Review of Sleight (2016) by Tim M — 06 Dec 2018
'Sleight' works until it doesn't, but still provides an outlet for the excellent work of Jacob Latimore and Dule Hill. The former plays a recent high school graduate, newbie drug dealer, and part-time magician working for a gangster-type boss (Hill).
The first half of this works, but narratively it veers off course and rushes to a conclusion. In reality this movie works, but when it dips into the non-reality based world it loses steam. The concluding drama between Hill and Latimore isn't great but the real problem is this movie ends a few times.
The last scene is not needed. The girl who plays Latimore's younger sister, Storm Reid, is fantastic, but many of the bit players are cringeworthy. Final Score: 6.1/10.
