Even if you accept that someone could build an "eternal" engine and then you can hang on and wait for the thin explanation in the school car scene of why all humanity ended up boarding a train instead of hunkering down somewhere else, the movie is just too full of distracting implausible ideas for me to find it engaging.
The movie is visually interesting and well acted, but it requires a leap of faith much bigger than I am willing to make. I also thought the acting was one-dimensional.
