Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by 'Michael S — 24 Dec 2018
When there is concern it will be just another exhausting round of rebooting the original spider man story, the animated version decides to skip everything by surprising the audiences with something entirely new, creative, different and expansive spidey adventure.
It might not be the mainstream animation like those from Disney/ Pixar or intend to attract the kids, it does not has state-to-the art visual effects but the combination of old-fashioned graphics with the modern CGI effectively turn it into a real comic book presentation to the big screen, even the choices of musics and scores are full with joyous spirit and energy.
There's too much to love about the work, it's fast-paced, smart, stylish, full with fun, emotional and sensational engaging thanks to the strong character developments with hearts. While its serious themes might be similar to The Dark Knight series, it is ambitious on its own scale, not necessary to be a crowd pleaser but as a major accomplishment to be the best animated feature of the year and a meaningful tribute to Stan Lee.
