Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by L W — 24 Jan 2019
Spider-Man: into the spider-verse gives a refreshing take on animation which I feel gives a more visual interpretation of mess and pressure one feels from the teenage experience. The characters, while already fan favourites are given a completely new lease on life in this film.
They stay more true to the relatable essence of the comics while giving us nods and odes to the previous Spider-Man films and shows. Going into the film I was worried about how they would work all the characters into one cohesive story but they managed to do it.
The story feels smooth and while it is yet another Spider-Man origin story, it still feels refreshing and new. Given all these positives you would be lead to believe this is a 5 star film, well for me its a four and a half stars.
I only have two problems with it, one being while I love the original score and the original soundtrack, at some points the latter just doesnâ(TM)t work. Without giving anything away there is a scene at the start where they somehow fit three/four different songs from the original soundtrack in under three minutes.
It just doesnâ(TM)t work and makes the moment a tad overwhelming but the original soundtrack does work in other moments. great example of it working is the âwhats up dangerâ? scene, the scene mixing and blends everything together and the lyrics and tone match the subject amazingly and caused me to have goosebumps for awhile after.
The second fault I have is, no epilepsy warning. The film features a lot of flashing lights and colours which could be dangerous for some.
