Review of Spring Breakers (2013) by Nico H — 25 Jun 2014
There's no moral to the story because there's no bias in the perspective. Take what you will from it. It captures the world it portrays in the most honest way possible. It's gaudy, cheesy, and often feels like it's trying way too hard, while simultaneously being dazzlingly romanticized and beautifully fucked up, and isn't that what spring break is about? This movie got a bad rep because nobody got what they were expecting or wanted.
Spring Break fans didn't want a Harmony Korine movie and Harmony Korine fans didn't want a Spring Break movie. In fact, Harmony Korine fans didn't want a spring break movie so much to the point that they interpret it as an attempt at a parody.
It's not. Harmony Korine just wanted to tell a story in the world of Spring Break for some reason and he did a damn good job.
