Review of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) by Stu A — 10 May 2009
A worthy if inferior follow-up to Wrath of Khan. The plot involves the Enterprise crew's quest to resurrect their fallen comrade, and to the credit of the filmmakers, this is more than a gimmick and addressed seriously.
The biggest fault in the movie is how fake the Genesis plannet looks. There is a moment in the movie when the snow looks like confetti. The Klingons are sort of shoehorned into the movie, but they make for acceptable villains.
As the film proceeds it leads to a very exciting climax (often parodied in South Park). Has themes of rebirth and sacrifice and many goosebump moments, the highlight being the crew stealing the Enterprise.
