Review of Struck by Lightning (2013) by Lara A — 07 Jan 2013
This awesome debut by Chris Colfer is well worth watching. The writing is always crisp and smart. The realism should be depressing, but somehow Colfer manages to pull an upbeat message out of a story that should have left you sad.
The main character Carson Philips is a refreshing change from the usual stereotypes in teen films. He isnâ(TM)t the nerd obsessed with the pretty unattainable girl He isnâ(TM)t the â~uglyâ(TM) brunette obsessed with popularity, prom, and the jock boyfriend.
Instead of being obsessed with high school, like any sane smart person, Carson wants out. His sets his sights much higher than the school year. The things he does to achieve his goals are extreme but Colfer succeeds in making a rather unlikable character someone you can actually root for.
The story is original and refreshing. Go see it!
