Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Cee C — 11 Jun 2013
I loved Superman Returns in 2006. Something that I cannot quite fathom now because it very much by-the-numbers. It is riddled with flaws, the action unremarkable and the casting of Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane is ill fitting at best.
She doesn't has the charisma or likability of Kidder in the original films. Routh is a decent Superman but he only ever seems to be aping Christopher Reeve and doesn't make the role his own. Kevin Spacey makes a good Luthor though and he is clearly having fun in the role.
With Zack Snyder's Man of Steel on the way Superman Returns looks set to sit in relative obscurity, perhaps that's not such a bad thing.
