Review of T2 Trainspotting (2017) by Peter O — 30 Jan 2017
This movie doesn't reach the highs and lows of the original, but middle age doesn't reach the highs or lows of being young in the 90s either, so is a perfect tribute to the glory days of misspent youth whilst muddling through in misspent middle age.
At times the movie makes you realize just like in real life, watching middle aged men do drugs, get drunk, lust after younger women and hero worship their idols, isn't cool any more. Yet at other times the movie's heavy nostalgia and Danny Boyle's slick wizardry elicit deep emotions especially if the original Trainspotting struck a chord with you, as it did with me.
Spud taking centre stage was nice and something good happening to someone that deserves it, was a nice juxtaposition to the first movie. I would have liked a follow up to the 'Being Scottish is shite' speech, but it didn't come.
I would recommend to Choose to see this movie. Afterwards I pogo danced with 90s music cranked up and tears in my eyes, well as best I could in the driving seat of a family car.
