Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Max E — 20 Jul 2012
This, in a nutshell, is a last minute let-down. For all Take Shelter's qualities, its ending crushed the rating I was originally going to award it with. One of the critics described it as a shaggy dog story, and I find that fairly accurate; it builds a grand tower of cards, via top notch performances, stunning photography and effective storytelling, only to slam the table right at the end.
It left me really disappointed, and cheated, sitting through a two hour movie of quite slow pace, expecting a counter-balancing climax that was cut off almost immediately.
