Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) by Gumdrop — 01 Sep 2023
I loved the animation style. It's something new and refreshing. The story itself is fun and engaging and the dialogue was entertaining. Fight scenes were a lot of fun to watch. I love that they made Splinter like a real, weird dad. There was some great humour in here and the running jokes landed every time.
In general I enjoyed how the characters were treated. Even the traditional TMNT villains weren't bad in the end. It's a departure but I enjoyed the different take. The only thing I think they should have worked on was more clearly defining the turtles themselves. They've always had their very distinct and individual characters. For me they tended to blur into each other. Like you couldn't really tell them apart from a personality standpoint most of the time. Sure, they had different voices, "costumes" and weapons - but other than that they didn't stand apart enough. But that's about my only real critcism.
