Review of The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared (2013) by Jeff B — 18 Feb 2016
What a wonderful film. It's Forrest Gump meets The Pied Piper of Hamelin. It's a hilarious, quirky, light hearted romp through the unimaginable and impracticable, It's just perfect. Allan Karlsson is untouchable. He's a saint / idiot savant. He is everyone's friend, grandfather, even enemy. There is nothing he can't do. And believe me, he does do it all.
From the outset, every life Allan touches turns to gold. He is the Walking Spirit making all right for all he comes in contact with. He is Michael the archangel taking on all evil in his path and setting it alight and right.
He inspires Openheimer and Einstein. He befriends Truman, Franco, Reagan, and Stalin. He is a man of adventure, idiot savant with such Forrest insight that his backward genius just can't be denied. He is friend to all, enemy to a few. But if you become his enemy, he will find a way to eliminate you without a thought or a bat of an eye, for his angels are many and highly protective.
One of the few movies I've watched which was such a joy, I didn't want it to end. Whimsical, fun, frivolous, impossible and plausible all at the same time. A wonder to behold. So behold, for he is waiting for your, a very old friend, a friend of a lifetime.
