Review of The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005) by John M — 12 Jan 2013
Even though I have enjoyed mostly all of the productions from the Judd Apatow squad, none of them come close to The 40 Year Old Virgin in terms of favorites for me. The premise is simple enough in that you have a super strait-laced guy, Andy (Steve Carell) who never got around to losing his V-card.
Three of his co-workers find out about this and go about giving him advice and trying to help him solve his problem. This has all the hallmarks of what is a Judd Apatow film: 1. It's raunchy, but doesn't go overboard; it knows where the line to stop is.
2. It has a good message hidden beneath all the adult jokes. 3. It's well written, hilarious and goes about twenty minutes too long. Steve Carell is the perfect actor to play this awkward virgin, and the supporting cast is all very likable and characters you would love to hang out with.
One fantastic all around comedy.
