Review of The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004) by Tara H — 15 Mar 2016
This true story is simply devastating. It shows once again the plight of a 'little man' whose failing career and marriage contribute to the destruction of the American dream, and his descent into madness and one last desperate act is utterly convincing.
Unshowy direction from Niels Mueller makes the perfect foil for Sean Penn, the greatest movie actor of his generation. Penn excels at portraying characters on the edge, of society and their own sanity.
This is easily among his best work and should be rated as one of the more important films of this decade.
