Review of The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) by Kyle G — 06 Jan 2019
After a strong start with decent acting, characters that are interesting and a story premise that pulls you in, the movie flatlines soon after you get into the meat of it. When the autopsy first began I couldnt help but notice condtricatory points that really damaged the legitimacy of the plot.
I wont get into the details, but I definetly started losing interest quickly upon noticing these. All hope for the movie being good died off when they pulled a fully intact flower out her intestine. They conveniently had a flower identification book that they used to figure it out what the flower was and what it did.
At that point I literally thought "wow, this is stupid!" Some time after that when they pulled out the tooth wrapped in cloth the son said that the stomach acid should have broken that material down.
So the cloth baggy coming out intact is perplexing, but a whole flower that is able to be identified doesnt raise an eyebrow? What the hell!? Everything the movie had to offer after those things just didn't make much sense.
They try to throw a twist at you by having the sons girlfriend appear as a cadaver and "accidentally" getting axed in the face. She was so insignificant of a character and her death so meaningless, that it didnt stir up any kind of tangible response.
"Oh!" Would probably be the most extreme reaction you could get out of it. The whole story became confused and Im not really sure if the movie itself knew what it wanted to do with things. It had some creepy, tense moments scattered here and there with a few jump scares but thats about all the positives this movie had.
After the good start and consistent tension, this movie fell apart and really became very stale and void of anything that could cement the premise as being legitimate.
