Review of The Babadook (2014) by Michael M — 29 Mar 2016
This isn't really your typical horror movie, it's more in the vein of something like The Exorcist in that it's more artistically done and uses it's horror to tell a message of sorts. Without spoiling too much of it, I'll just say grief is a central theme of the movie, and the way it ends beautifully shows the place grief has in our lives.
The colors and angles are very interesting, and the performers are great portraying characters that aren't always likable, but are always human. It's still scary, don't get me wrong, and it impressively managed to still scare the shit out of me without a single jump scare.
It's just a damn creepy movie, and it doesn't need to show you much to scare the hell out of you. One of the best horror movies of the decade.
