Review of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018) by James S — 29 Nov 2018
If you like it when main characters die, then these small stories are for you. Death is the main theme of these stories. I felt depressed after watching it. The stories are so short that there is very little character development.
I felt strangely detached from the characters that died in each story. I knew by the third story that it was going to end badly for most of the main characters. They threw a bone to us with one main character, but that was the character I cared for the least.
Great acting and techinical directing earns it 2 stars, but the stories are too short to care much that most characters die. The circumstances surrounding each death are treated with dark comedy. That doesn't work in this film.
It felt forced and morbid for no good reason.
