Review of The Batman (2022) by Compi24 — 04 Mar 2022
Warner Bros. continues the tradition of occasionally throwing a bone to a gifted filmmaker with a specific vision for certain DC Comics characters — namely those within the Batman mythos. With "The Batman," I think they've achieved something really special.
The creative leeway they've given Matt Reeves has not only allowed for one of the best looking comic book movies ever made to take shape, but a comic book movie that I can truly say has gotten the closest to distilling the experience of reading a graphic novel down to a cinematic level.
The saga at hand is so lushly designed and brilliantly realized, layered with hard-hitting action, vibrant character work and mesmerizing exercises in world-building. The performances are frankly top tier and Michael Giacchino's score is damn near perfect, if not the best thing I've ever heard him do.
There's a lot to process here, but the more I think back on it, the more I'm reminded of the things I loved. I felt things watching this that I haven't felt while watching a Batman movie in quite some time.
The first and last twenty minutes of this might some of the finest bits of any Batman movie we'll ever get. Simply incredible work and I can't wait to dive into this world again.
