Review of The Best Offer (2013) by Simon T — 02 May 2018
For the first hour this is an intriguing - if painfully slow - mystery, involving Geoffrey Rush's fastidious art expert and auctioneer defrauding the art world with his hirsute accomplice, the bizarrely Cockney Donald Sutherland.
But the plotting becomes progressively ludicrous and predictable, until the only person who hasn't worked out what's going on is Rush's character. Nicely photographed in Italy, with a sinuous Morricone score.
