Review of The Book of Life (2014) by Kristofer N — 14 Nov 2017
It was quite good. The visuals are amazing, especially the lighting and animation quality. The story, however, does not meet up with the visuals. The things in the movie meet up well with traditional Mexican culture.
There were ofrendas in the movie, each with three layers. The areas that the characters visit represent heaven, purgatory, and what's below, which is very true to the culture that this movie is based off of.
The Land of the Remembered is bright and colorful, while the Land of the Forgotten is dark and blue. This matches with what Mexican culture believes that these two areas would be like. There was also Pan de Muertos in the movie on the ofrendas on Day of the Dead.
