Review of The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (2009) by Eric R — 25 Jun 2010
Fucking brilliant! It's so rare that you see a sequel 8 years after the original that actually stars all the orignal cast! If you're a fan of the first one this is definitely a no-brainer! Troy Duffy is so rock n roll with his directing and I love how the story doesn't take itself too seriously.
There are a few ridiculously hilarious moments that sort of made it a little silly but that's kind of the point. The Saints are just shooting the shit in more ways than one. LOVE the addition of Clifton Collins Jr.
as Romeo, such a firecracker! (stereotype not intended) Also I'm glad the 3 cops from the first film had a much bigger role this time. Too bad Smecker only shows up in the end but I guess it would be kind of hard to work him into the story otherwise.
Duffy mentions that this movie was made for the fans and I thank him so much for that. My favourite moments were the Rocco dream sequences, I always thought his characters had more layers to it than just the funny man.
Small note: I'm sure EVERYONE in Canada recognized Robb Wells as Jimmy the Gopher! I laughed so hard because I only know him as Ricky from TPB! When he locked himself inside the safe room and the cops were asking him to come out I totally expected him to say "Not till I get some smokes, and bag of chips and some pepporoni!".
