Review of The Bourne Identity (2002) by Thesodomizer — 26 Jul 2018
While not an action classic by any means The Bourne Identity does more than just deliver and satisfy. It's not just brainless fun for action junkies, The Bourne Identity actually has a thick plot with compelling character development. Cinematography is the key element making the movie more real due to its constantly deliberate breaking of 180° rule.
Well done editing also helps, especially in the action scenes making them seem refreshingly suspenseful.
Matt Damon (who was criticized when cast) delivered a relatively good performance, the was it should be. The same can be said for Franka Potente. What makes The Bourne Identity really fun is Jason Bourne discovering his own abilities as well as his identity along with the audience.
On the whole The Bourne Identity is a great action movie with crafty set pieces, good fight choreography, a satisfying plot and characters.
