Review of The Boys Are Back (2009) by Stephen L — 20 Nov 2009
I rate this 1 star because Clive Owen is nice to look at and it's always great to see Australian scenery in a film. As for the story, well, it's pretty pathetic. Narcissistic, indulgent and wearily self righteous father gets involved in parenting, seemingly for the first time, after the death of his wife.
It reminds me of a NZ parenting expert I saw who when confronted with parents with 'out of control' teenagers starts by asking "Did you have any rules & boundaries with them when they were children?".
No prizes for guessing the answer. Many predictable and somewhat pathetic plot points doesn't help either. Thankfully not all of those involved in parenting, male or female, live in a pig sty or defrost chickens in the bath! Why this was made into a film escapes me but then so did all the fuss about Wuthering Heights!
