"The Breadwinner" is a reminder that 2D animation can still be stunning as an art form. This movie is emotionally heavy all the way through and at times it even becomes pretty difficult to watch.
It is ultimately a hopeful story but it certainly isn't always a pleasant one. The movie becomes aggressively sad at one point but it is set in a horrific society so it isn't surprising. It is a powerful and inspirational movie about going against the odds.
The film is an overlooked gem from 2017 that is worth checking out, especially for fans of old-school animation.
