Review of The Break-Up (2006) by Dawdlingpoet — 27 Nov 2021
This isn't the sort of movie I tend to watch too often but seeing as I like both Vince and Jennifers acting and I have already seen so many movies, I thought I'd give it a go. It is pretty much as you may expect for what could be seen as a 'chick flick' movie, there are some pretty amusing scenes, while there are also some more serious scenes/aspects to it. I think it is quite a realistic movie in that people will be able to relate to what happens to the characters, the issue of lack of communication in a relationship is a pretty common one from what I know and the ending is also kind of poignant, I feel, without giving it away again its something that I would presume quite a few people will be able to relate to, so the film works in that sense. I did feel that the movie lagged a bit in the middle, at the start it was interesting to see what led up to Brookes decision to call what she saw as a 'time out', you could call it, on her relationship and the very end was quite well done, I felt but mid way through it lagged IMO, the story moves a bit too slowly for me personally. While it has some funny aspects to it, its more a movie with a moral to it I feel, that may make you think rather than an all out comedy, so bare that in mind. I'm not sure there's much else I can say, though I thought both actors played their roles quite well.
I wouldn't recommend it as a great comedy as such, although it does have its funny aspects/scenes, it lags a bit and won't keep your attention right through if you watch it purely as a comedy but as a movie about communicating in a relationship and as a chick flick, its not bad, so yes I'd recommend it as that particular type of movie, if that hopefully makes sense(?).
