The less said the better regarding THE CAPTIVE but I'll continue anyway. An interesting concept that is totally dropped in favor of pretentious brooding from director Atom Egoyan. THE CAPTIVE recalls his earlier works, but nearly 18 years after his masterpiece THE SWEET HEREAFTER, THE CAPTIVE is the kind of misfire that makes one question an artist's entire output.
After so many banal and pretentious films (can I add pretentious one more time?) perhaps I don't like his works after all. First PT Anderson and now Agoyan. A sad month at the movies :(.
