Review of The Circle (2017) by Alexander N — 26 Jan 2018
With an ill-advised speedy introduction in the beginning and unnecessary, bland sarcasm throughout; The Circle missed every turn. Emma Watson's performance was quite awkward for the majority of the film, and Ellar Coltrane just made me uncomfortable. I don't blame Watson for the obscure character, she was given no substance to work with. Tom Hanks made the film enjoyable for the few minutes he was on screen, I wish we saw more of him.
The majority of the film felt like it kept building up to a possible problem, but there was never any serious conflict to deal with. The Circle felt like some weird parody advertisement.
