Review of The Circle (2017) by Deborah F — 27 Apr 2017
When you notice that there are very few critic reviews or ratings out on Thursday that might be a red flag for a film. The promotional campaign for The Circle was so intriguing and the film bolsters a cast with some very high profile Hollywood actors.
The film is so muddled and slow that it is hard to justify why the audience should even care about the characters in the film. Emma Watson plays a very detached character that you never fully connect with her as an observer of what is taking place.
Tom Hanks is underwhelming in his more neurotic, power hungry Steve Jobs like character Bailey. It was a wasted opportunity to adapt the work of Dave Eggers to the big screen and make a decent, intellectual, thrilling film.
The lesson that is learned from the film is that privacy is a good thing when it comes to our personal lives and no one should have the right to invade that space.
