Review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) by Random V — 11 Feb 2018
Random bizarreness as a plot device can work, had it played with rising tension and/or action, but there was no convincing psychological tension or depth to the characters. Instead it gave some ideas, and then doesn't follow through with any of its ideas.
Its feels like it adds to the CLOVERFIELD mythos with the arrival of the alien beasties and how they came to Earth, but it feels like that was the movie's only function. The remainder of the movie didn't know what it was doing.
Gave the movie an extra half-star for the performances, even if character logic and problem solving skills from highly trained scientists and engineers is flawed.
