Review of The Color of Paradise (1999) by William H — 02 Feb 2009
Simple in a good way, it's an uncluttered uncynical movie, ultimately about God. Very non-western in its storytelling and characterization. The whole movie is filled with outdoor sounds, woodpeckers' mating calls, strange wild creatures crying out, trickling streams and the persian outdoors.
I would say that the film is a better experience than it is actually enjoyable. The properly translated title is "The Color of God" which gives the appropriate insight into what the film means, considering the main character is blind.
